THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: SHORT TERM INSURANCE and MEDICAL AID COVER REVIEW

  1. What is insurance and what does it mean for me as a policyholder?

Peace of mind. It is a product you purchase in the form of a policy contract which provides cover for sudden and unforeseen events caused by fire, storm, weather, earthquake, theft, power surge and malicious damage or a vehicle accident.

  1. When do I need insurance?

If you are the owner of property, you need insurance. Many of us do not have the cash flow to absorb the costs of suddenly having to replace our highly valued items at once and pay third-party damages. This includes buildings, furniture, vehicles and other personal property. Also, when you have jewellery, prescription glasses, hearing aids, sports and camera equipment, bicycles, cellphones, smart watches and portable electronic equipment, and often take it with you.

  1. Why do you need to review your short-term insurance policy

Regularly reviewing your short-term insurance policy is essential because your life circumstances and the value of your assets change over time. Failure to update your policy can result in being underinsured, paying for unnecessary coverage, or even having a claim rejected entirely.

  1. Why reviewing your Medical Aid Plan matters

Medical schemes open an annual window period, allowing members to upgrade their plan options for the next calendar year.

This opportunity enables you to:

    • Ensure your coverage aligns with your expected healthcare needs and lifestyle changes
    • Benefit from new features, improved coverage, or updated provider networks
    • Choose a plan that fits your financial situation and budget
    • Avoid being locked into a plan that may no longer meet your needs throughout the year.
